The New EU Battery Rules Explained.

A major regulatory shift is quietly approaching that will reshape the electronics and corporate gifting market across Europe. If your business distributes battery-powered promotional products, promotional tech, or electronic corporate gifts, a critical deadline is on the horizon.

According to Article 11 of the EU Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542), all portable batteries incorporated into appliances and electronics must be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user. This legal requirement will be strictly enforced across all EU member states starting February 18, 2027.

For the promotional gift industry, this means the era of permanently glued-in batteries in small electronics, such as custom power banks, wireless earbuds, or mini desk fans, is coming to an end. The regulation explicitly bans the use of industrial adhesives, solvents, or heat guns to access or replace the battery. Instead, devices must be engineered to be disassembled safely using commercially available, everyday tools.

Failing to comply with these design standards before the deadline means products cannot legally be placed on the EU market, risking costly customs rejections and supply chain disruptions.
